Christian Ritter von Platzer (* unknown; † November 6, 1853 in Vienna ) was an Austrian officer ( engineering team ) and director of the Imperial and Royal Polytechnic Institute in Vienna (1852/53).

Life

Nothing is known about Christian von Platzer's early years. However, he can be proven in the military schematism of the Austrian Empire from 1823: as sub-lieutenant in Venice (1823/24), as first lieutenant in Salzburg (1825/26) and in Mainz (1827-1830), as lieutenant captain in Mainz (1831) , to Piacenza (1832), to Königgrätz (1833) and to Vienna (1834–1837), as captain of Vienna (1838–1840), abroad (1841), building fortifications at Verona (1842/43) and to this degree as Fortification Local Director in Graz (1844/45), as Major as Fortification Local Director in Graz (1846) and Milan (1847/48) and from 1850 as Colonel as Field Genius Director at I. Army in Vienna.

In 1852 the assistant to the chair for mechanics at the Imperial and Royal Polytechnic Institute, Caesar von Bezard, was arrested for high treason. Together with Lieutenant Colonel Johann May, he is said to have participated in a conspiracy instigated by Lajos Kossuth at the end of 1851 (Bezard and May were executed for this in 1853). In the course of this, the director of the Imperial and Royal Polytechnic Institute Adam von Burg was removed from his position, the Imperial and Royal Polytechnic Institute was placed under military administration and Christian von Platzer was appointed director. On February 22, 1853, Platzer was removed from the position of director and appointed field genius director for the mobile troops under the orders of Feldzeugmeister Joseph Jelačić von Bužim . On June 5, Platzer was appointed field genius director with the First Army in Vienna and died on November 6, 1853 in Vienna.

Christian von Platzer was awarded the Austrian Military Merit Cross , the Ottoman Order of Merit and the Russian Order of St. Anne , 2nd class.
