His grandfather of the same name, Christian von Stenglin (1843–1928), was the state stable master in the studs of Celle and Neustadt / Dosse and from 1896 to 1920 he was Mecklenburg chief stables and director of the state stud Redefin . His father Otto von Stenglin (1877–1957) was from 1916 to 1934 state stable master in the Rhineland state stud in Wickrath .

Christian von Stenglin studied agriculture at the Universities of Königsberg , Munich and Bonn , where he received his doctorate in 1951. From 1951 to 1954 he was a stud assistant at the state stud in Warendorf . From 1954 he was a stud assistant in Celle and in 1958 he became the state stable master. Under his leadership, the state stud mastered its existential crisis triggered by the mechanization of agriculture. With the conversion of the stallion population and the orientation towards a sport warmblood horse , he laid the foundation for modern Hanoverian horse breeding .

In 1979 he retired.
