Christiane Sorell

Christiane Sorell , born in Christiane Hruschka , (born January 13, 1931 in Vienna ; † May 30, 2015 there ) was an Austrian opera singer ( soprano ). She was a member of the Vienna Volksoper ensemble from 1955 and was made an honorary member of the Volksoper in 1989.

Life

Christiane Sorell first studied violin at the Vienna Music Academy in addition to high school and gave violin concerts in Austria, Italy, France, Switzerland and the USA. At the same time she devoted herself to her vocal studies with Ferdinand Grossmann . In 1953 she completed both studies with a diploma examination.

Franz Salmhofer brought her to the Vienna Volksoper , where she made her debut in 1955 and was part of the ensemble for twenty years. She also remained artistically connected to the Haus am Gürtel until her retirement in August 1988. In 1989 she was made an honorary member of the Volksoper, where she performed as “Amalia” in the Austrian premiere of Verdi's Die Räuber in 1963 , as “Margarethe” in the Vienna premiere of Faust's Verdammnis by Hector Berlioz and in 1970 in the role of “Marei “ Was seen in the world premiere of Dreikönig by Franz Salmhofer. Other roles were “Gilda” in Verdi's Rigoletto , “Pamina” in the Magic Flute , “Agathe” in Freischütz, as well as “Hansi Gruber” in Robert Stolz's operetta Spring Parade and the “Queen” in Schwanda, the bagpiper .

At the Vienna State Opera in 1957/58 she was seen as "Taumännchen" in Hansel and Gretel as well as in performances of Carmina Burana . In 1969 she played “Antonia” in Hoffmann's stories in the Haus am Ring . From 1964 she was connected to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf-Duisburg through a guest performance contract . Guest appearances have taken her to France, Zurich, Bologna, Stuttgart, Munich and Frankfurt.

Christiane Sorell was married to the singer Franz Ramharter . On May 30, 2015, she died at the age of 84 in Vienna and was buried in the Hietzinger Friedhof (group 31, row 1, number 1).
