Christoph Beck (jazz musician)

Christoph Beck (born December 3, 1986 in Engen ) is a German jazz musician , saxophonist , composer and arranger .

Career

After graduating from high school and completing his military service with the Heeresmusikkorps Ulm, from 2007 he studied jazz saxophone with Bernd Konrad and jazz composition with Rainer Tempel at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts ; During this bachelor's degree, which he completed with top marks in 2012, he spent a semester abroad in 2010 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . He completed a master's degree at the University of Music in Würzburg with Hubert Winter from 2012 to 2014. He was a member of the Baden-Württemberg State Youth Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Bernd Konrad , as well as of the Federal Jazz Orchestra .

Beck heads the Christoph Beck Quartet , which published its debut album in the Jazz thing Next Generation series of the jazz magazine Jazz thing and the Double Moon label , and the trio TARTAROS with Patrick Bebelaar and Bodek Janke . He is also the co-leader of the trio The Last Kangaroo (with Sebastian Schuster and Felix Schrack). He also performs regularly with various ensembles of jazz and popular music - including the Tobias Becker Bigband, the Slavko Benic Orkestr and the Eberhard Budziat Bigband.

Beck lives and works in Stuttgart .

Prizes and awards

Beck received the Young Lions Jazz Award from the Lions Club Stuttgart-Killesberg in 2009 and was a scholarship holder of the Baden-Württemberg Foundation in 2010 . He was also invited to the international jazz meeting Generations in 2012 and received the quarterly award of the German Record Critics as a member of the Tobias Becker Big Band in 2013 .
