Christoph Bertram

Christoph Bertram (born September 3, 1937 in Kiel ) is a German journalist and political advisor . From 1997 to 2005 he was head of the Science and Politics Foundation .

biography

Bertram studied law and political science in Berlin, Bonn and Paris. He became an assessor in 1967.

Bertram was a trainee lawyer in the Directorate General for External Relations at the European Commission and then went to the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London as Director of Studies . Under Defense Minister Helmut Schmidt, he was involved in setting up the planning team on the Hardthöhe . In 1974 he became director of the IISS, in 1982 he came to ZEIT , whose editorial office he was head of the political department and diplomatic correspondent for sixteen years. Bertram was a member of the editorial board of Foreign Policy Magazine , Washington, DC From at least 1980 to 1981 and from 1990 to 1993 Bertram was a member of the Steering Committee of the Bilderberg Conferences and from 1978 to 1998 a regular participant in these conferences. Bertram was also involved in the Bergedorf Round Table.

In 1997 he became director of the Science and Politics Foundation in Berlin.

From 2005 he held a visiting professorship at the SAIS Bologna Center at Johns Hopkins University . Bertram was a member of the Presidium of the German Evangelical Church Congress until 2009 . He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Berlin Institute for Population and Development , which develops “concepts for solving demographic problems”.
