Christoph Engelbrecht of Brevern (* 17th December 1782 in Kostivere , Estonia , † 4. January 1863 in Mitau , Estonia) was a Courland judges and civil governor of the province Kurland . He belonged to the German-Baltic aristocratic family "von Brevern" and in 1833 received Kurland citizenship.

Life

Christoph Engelbrecht von Brevern (first name: Christoph ) was the son of Heinrich Johann von Brevern (1749-1803) and his wife Elisabeth, née Staël von Holstein . He was the first family member to receive the Courland indigenous population in 1833 . Little is known about his school and university degree. His career began in the Imperial Russian Army , which he left, however, and switched to a civil-political career.

Military background

At the age of 17 he joined the Imperial Russian Army and served in the Semyonovskoye Bodyguard Regiment in Saint Petersburg from 1799 to 1802.He continued his military career in the Cavalry Guard regiment from 1802 and quit his service as a staff commander in 1806.

Political career

He then became a landlord on Kiekel in Estonia and held the post of hook judge from 1811 to 1815 , from 1815 to 1821 he was a district judge in the Wierland district and subsequently he was the Estonian district administrator . From December 7, 1827 to May 22, 1853 he was civil governor of the Courland Governorate and ended his political career as a privy councilor .

Christoph Engelbrecht vB was the founding father of the Kurland line of those of Brevern. He married Julie von Strandmann in 1807 (November 6, 1790 in Raval; † July 20, 1830), their children were:
