Like Christopher , Christoph is a short form of Christophorus, in German Christopherus . It comes from ancient Greek and literally means "bearer of Christ". The first name first became popular in the Middle Ages through the veneration of the early Christian martyr Christophorus , who is one of the saints and helpers in need.
