Christoph Weihe

Christoph Weihe (born March 5, 1954 in Halberstadt ) is a German sculptor , medalist and stonemason .

Live and act

Christoph Weihe grew up in Brehna , where he became familiar with the art of sculpture and stonemasonry in his father's workshop. He comes from a family in which there are many artists and pastors, his grandfather was the Halberstadt cathedral preacher Paulus Hinz. He is related to the sculptors Erdmann-Michael Hinz and Johann-Peter Hinz . After graduating from high school in 1972, he studied from 1974 to 1980 at the College of Industrial Design in Halle, Burg Giebichenstein with Gerhard Lichtenfeld and Bernd Göbel . Since 1981 he has been working as a freelancer in Halle (Saale) . He has created several works of art for public spaces .

Weihe also works as a medalist , among others he designed the silver festival medal “Stars of Halle” for the 1200th anniversary of Halle / Saale together with five colleagues ( Bernd Göbel , Carsten Theumer, Marcus Golter, Heidi Wagner-Kerkhof , Maya Graber ). This work was chosen in 2006 when the German Medalist Award "Johann Veit Döll" was awarded for the first time by the German Society for Medal Art among the "ten best contemporary medals" of the year. The medal was also shown in the German contribution to the World Medal Exhibition (FIDEM) 2007 in Colorado Springs . Then a copy was bought by the coin collection of the British Museum and the Moritzburg Art Museum in Halle / Saale.

Weihe has been married since 1982 and has three children. He is the brother of the sculptor Michael Weihe .
