Christopher John Cocksworth (born January 12, 1959 in West Sussex ) is a British Anglican theologian . He has been Bishop of Coventry since 2008 .

Life

Cocksworth was born near Horsham , where he grew up and attended local schools. He studied theology at Manchester University . There he obtained a first class degree, then the academic degree of a Bachelor of Arts and later a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).

In preparation for the priesthood he attended St John's College in Nottingham . He was ordained a priest in 1984 . From 1988 to 1992 he was Vicar ( Curate ) at the Common Christ Church in Epsom in the Diocese of Guildford .

From 1992 to 1997 he was a university chaplain ( Chaplain ) at the Royal Holloway College of the University of London operates. Cocksworth has been married for over 30 years. His wife Charlotte, b. Pytches, is a trained deaf-mute teacher ; For years she taught children who were excluded from official school attendance. The marriage produced five sons. Cocksworth is the son-in-law of David Pytches (* 1931), the former " Bishop of Chile, Bolivia and Peru " in the Anglican Community .

Membership in the House of Lords

Cocksworth has officially been a member of the House of Lords as Spiritual Lord since November 19, 2012 . In the House of Lords, he succeeds Nicholas Reade , the retired Bishop of Blackburn.
