Nicholas Reade

Nicholas Reade (born December 9, 1946 ) is a British Anglican clergyman . He was Bishop of Blackburn from 2004 to October 2012 .

life and career

Reade attended the University of Leeds and graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor and a Diploma in Theology ( Diploma of Theology ). From 1970 he attended the College of the Resurrection in Mirfield to prepare for the priesthood .

In 1973 he became a deacon ordained in 1974 priest . From 1973 to 1975 he was Vicar at St Chad's Church in Coseley in the Diocese of Lichfield .

From 1975 to 1978 he was an assistant vicar at St Nicholas Church in Codshall . At the same time he was a parish administrator (priest-in-charge) for the Holy Cross Church in Bilbrook , also in the diocese of Lichfield.

1978-1982, he served as vicar at St Peter Church in Upper Gornal in the county of Staffordshire , and as a chaplain at the Burton Road Hospital in Dudley worked. Since 2004 he has been a member of the Healing Ministry Group of the House of Bishops. Since 2006 he has been the patron of SELRAP (Skipton and East Lancs Rail Action Partnership) , an initiative to reintroduce the former railway line between Skipton and Colne .

In 2005, Reade became Vice President of the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) , an aid organization for people with disabilities . In the same year he became patron of the Rosemere Cancer Foundation in Preston , Lancashire and patron of Helping Hands . Since 2006 he has been the patron of the Derian House Children's Hospice in Chorley . Since 2007 he has also been the patron of the Philippi Trust , a Christian pastoral organization in Blackpool .

In 2008, Reade became chairman of the Committee for Ministry of and among Deaf and Disabled People (CMDDP), which is responsible for pastoral care for the deaf in the Church of England. Reade is married and has one daughter. His wife Christine is a teacher.

Membership in the House of Lords

From October 5, 2009 to October 31, 2012 Reade was a Spiritual Lord in the House of Lords . He gave his inaugural address on November 24, 2009.

His areas of political interest include the support and promotion of people with disabilities and deafness , public welfare and the fulfillment of community tasks, as well as spiritual contemplation and a holistic view of people in society.

Working in public

In questions of canon law, Reade takes a conservative position. He is assigned to the group of traditionalists in the Church of England . Reade noted a dwindling influence of the Church of England. In July 2008, he did not take part in the Lambeth Conference , which dealt with issues such as women's ordination and homosexuality . Reade stated that the bishops had not been adequately informed in the run-up to the conference to be able to comment on such important issues.

In August 2008, Reade was one of a group of bishops who issued a public statement defending Archbishop Rowan Williams against criticism of his position on homosexuality. In April 2009 he attended the mass for the silver jubilee of Archbishop Patrick Kelly .
