Christopher Munthe

Christopher Caspar Andreas Wilhelm Munthe (born August 10, 1879 in Düsseldorf , † March 27, 1958 in Oslo ) was a German-Norwegian landscape , portrait and genre painter and farmer.

Life

Munthe, son of the Düsseldorf landscape painter Ludvig Munthe and his wife Lene Wilhelmina, née Vlierboom (1853–1901), was introduced to painting by his father , like his brother Gerhard . However, in contrast to these, he also developed into a portrait and genre painter. As heir to the farm in Årøy near Sogndal in Norway , he lived there by 1925 at the latest. Stays in the Netherlands ( Katwijk , Elspeet ) are documented for the years 1909/1910. In 1910 he married Evaline Vlierboom (1888–1970) there. In 1917 he portrayed his friend, the marine painter Carl Wilhelm Bøckmann Barth (1847-1919), in the same year the politician Gert Falch Heiberg (1871-1944) and his relative, the writer Margrethe Munthe , the sister of the painter Gerhard Munthe .
