Cierra Alexa Ramirez (born March 9, 1995 in Houston , Texas ) is an American actress , best known for her role as Mariana Foster in The Fosters (since 2013).

Life

Ramirez was born in 1995 in Houston, Texas, to a Colombian mother and a Mexican father. She currently lives alternately in Los Angeles and New York . Ramirez has a younger sister named Savannah. After a number of guest appearances on various television series, she took on a recurring role from 2012 to 2013 as Kathy in ABC Family broadcast teenage series The Secret Life of the American Teenager . This made the broadcaster aware of her and cast Ramirez for a leading role in the drama series The Fosters . There she plays Mariana Foster , one of the adopted children of the lesbian couple Stef Foster ( Teri Polo ) and Lena Adams ( Sherri Saum ).

Ramirez played her first major film role in 2012 in the film drama Girl in Progress , for which she won the ALMA Award and the Imagen Award for Best Supporting Actress .
