description

Inflorescence with flowers in detail of the camphor tree ( Cinnamomum camphora )

All species are evergreen, woody plants that grow as shrubs or trees . The bark and the leaves often smell aromatic. The leaves, which are usually arranged alternately on the branches, are simple and have entire margins.

The flowering time occurs when the leaves are fully developed. The flowers stand together in paniculate inflorescences . The hermaphroditic flowers contain (six to) nine bracts , (six to) nine stamens and three staminodes, as well as an ovary . Bluish, almost black, almost spherical stone fruits are formed.
