Claire Allen (born July 29, 1853 in Pontiac , Michigan , United States ; † December 22, 1942 in Jackson , Michigan, United States) was a prominent architect in southern Michigan at the beginning of the 20th century . He was the head of the architecture firm Claire Allen & Sons and worked as an architect in Jackson for 52 years.
As a young man, he was a construction worker and contractor, and as such was involved in the construction of the Ionia County Court House, a school in Dexter , Michigan, and numerous houses and other buildings in Belding and Ionia, and the Belding Brothers textile mill. Some of the courthousees that Allen designed for county governments are examples of American neoclassical architecture, but Allen also designed numerous structures in the Colonial Revival style .
