Clara Marisa Mayer (born 2001 ) is a German climate protection activist . She is the press spokesperson for Fridays for Future Berlin and gained wide prominence through her speech at the VW shareholders' meeting in 2019.

Act

Mayer became known to the general public in particular with her speech at the Volkswagen shareholders' meeting in May 2019. At that time she addressed the following words to the audience: “What you are doing here is not enough.” In doing so, she accused the generation of her parents and grandparents of not caring enough about the world they left behind for their youth. So she said: "You did not begin to understand the problem."

As the press spokeswoman for Fridays for Future Berlin, she was a guest on the talk shows Markus Lanz (ZDF) in August 2019 and Auf den Punkt ( Deutsche Welle ) in December 2019. She was also interviewed by various print and online media. She was one of the organizers of the climate strike on September 20, 2019, in which more than 100,000 people took to the streets in Berlin. She was disappointed with the words "We were shocked that the politicians ignored us and still ignored us, even though we demonstrated with so many people for a year" and announced that on Friday, January 10, 2020 the Berliners Local group will not strike, but rather whether the strategy will be discussed on the following Saturday.

On October 3, 2019, she took part in an anti-fascist demonstration against a deployment of right-wing extremists in Berlin, and was subsequently attacked by right-wing groups and people for this.

The magazine Vertriebswirtschaft mentions its name in connection with the marketing trends for 2020 with its analysis of sustainability “More advertising leads to more consumption. More consumption is bad. ” At the OWM Summit 2019.

Spiegel Online called her and the climate activists Greta Thunberg and Luisa Neubauer , the “Sea-Watch 3” captain Carola Rackete and “Trump critic” Megan Rapinoe “strong young women who stand up to the old forces”.

The Süddeutsche Zeitung listed them in their review of 2019 in their “List of the rising stars in the economy” for 2019.

Private life

Mayer passed her A-levels at the Schiller-Gymnasium Berlin in the early summer of 2019 . She then worked in an intensive care unit as part of a voluntary social year . Mayer lives in Berlin.
