Claude de La Baume

Claude de La Baume (* 1534 in Franche-Comté ; † June 14, 1584 in Arbois ) was a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Already on June 27, 1543, succeeding his uncle Pierre de La Baume the Archbishop of Besançon appointed, he received only on 10 August 1566 after reaching the canonical age the priesthood .

During this time he had a love affair with Nicole de Savigny , Baronesse de Fontette et de Saint-Rémy (* 1535, † 1590), the daughter of Georges de Savigny, Seigneur de Sailly and Nicole des Marets, who was mistress of the in 1556 and 1557 King Henry II . Nicole de Savigny sued Claude de La Baume for compliance with a vow of marriage, but this was rejected by the Roman Rota in December 1567 .

On June 4, 1570 he received the episcopal ordination by Cardinal Otto Truchseß von Waldburg , co- consecrators were Antonio Elio , titular patriarch of Jerusalem and Galeazzo Gegald , former bishop of Bagnoregio . On February 21, 1578 Pope Gregory XIII raised him . cardinal and on August 24, 1580 cardinal priest with the titular church Santa Pudenziana .

He was buried in the Saint-Just church in Arbois at the side of his uncle.
