Claudio Monge (theologian)

Claudio Monge OP (born May 28, 1968 in Saluzzo , Italy ) is an Italian religious and theologian.

Life

Claudio Monge initially studied to become a teacher in religious studies at the Theological Faculty of Milan (1991). He joined in 1993 the Congregation of the Dominicans at and studied philosophy (1997) and Theology (1999) at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. A doctoral degree for Dr. theol. in comparative theology and sociology he graduated from the University of Strasbourg . He has held a professorship for theology at the Swiss University of Friborg since 2008 . From 2007 to 2013 he also taught at the Theological Faculty of Emilia-Romagna in Bologna.

Monge was visiting professor at Galatasaray University in Istanbul (2011), at St. Michael College of the University of Toronto (2013/14), Pontifical University John Paul II in Krakow (2014), Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul ( 2015) and Dominican University College in Ottawa (2016).

He has been Superior of the Dominicans in Turkey since 2007 and is based in Istanbul. He is in charge of the library of the Dominican Center for Intercultural Dialogue in Istanbul (DOSTI). Monge is also President of the Union of Religions in Turkey.

Monge is among other things a member of the Council of the European Bishops' Conferences (Consilium Conferentiarum Episcoporum Europae CCCE). He was until 2012 a member of the Conference of European Churches (Conference of European Churches) for the territory of Islam in Europe. In 2014 he was appointed by Pope Francis to the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue .
