Claudio Raneri (born September 12, 1967 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German-Italian opera director , theater scholar and coach .

Life

Raneri received his first instruction in the teaching of instruments and music history from the violinist and music teacher Marianne Pielsticker. The MiR (Musiktheater im Revier) finally took notice of him through his lectures on cultural history , literature and opera during his high school years and his enthusiasm for dramaturgy and direction . After completing his A-levels at the Märkische Schule Wattenscheid in Bochum , he began an internship there in 1987 with Herbert Wernicke and worked as a dramaturge for a year.

From 1989 to 1995 he studied German and theater studies at the Free University of Berlin . During this time, he became assistant director at the Komische Oper Berlin under Harry Kupfer and Christine Mielitz . From 1994 to 1998 he took over the production management of the two musicals Elisabeth and Anatevka at the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien . This was followed by productions for the Scottish Opera and the University of Glasgow . From 2001 to 2007 he was assistant director and “Direttore di Ripresa” in numerous opera productions from Pesaro to Tokyo .

In September and October 2001 he directed the production Il trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi at the Palacio de Festivales in Santander .

In 2007 he worked on Alban Bergs Wozzeck for the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma . His directorial debut followed in 2010 with Rossini's Otello in Lausanne . During this period there was repeated collaboration with lighting designer Wolfgang von Zoubek .

In autumn 2010, he served as a director who staged performances of the team Noëmi Nadelmann the SRF contest Battle of the Choirs . Together they took 3rd place.
