Clayton Iona Stanley (born January 20, 1978 in Honolulu ) is an American volleyball player .
Career
Clayton Stanley is the son of Jon Stanley , who competed in the 1968 Olympic volleyball tournament . He couldn't play at Kaiser High School in Honolulu because the school didn't have a male volleyball team. Therefore, he started his career at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa . In 2000 he decided to go into the sport professionally and was called up to the national team. A year later, the Greek first division club Panathinaikos Athens signed the diagonal attacker. In 2003 he won the World Cup with the US team . In 2004 he achieved the double in Greece with Panathinaikos. He then took part in the Olympic Games , in which the USA took fourth place. Stanley moved within the Greek league to Iraklis Thessaloniki . In the first season he became Greek champions with the new club and reached the final of the Champions League against Tours VB in front of a local crowd . With the national team he won the NORCECA championship in 2005 . In 2006 he was again in the Champions League final before he left Greece and moved to the Russian club VK Zenit-Kazan . In the first season with the US attacker, Kazan made the national double. The US team defended the continental title with Stanley. In 2008 Kazan won the Champions League final against Copra Piacenza . Stanley experienced his second Olympic tournament after triumphing in the world league and won the gold medal through a final victory of his team against Brazil . For Kazan there was again the double in 2009 and another championship title in 2010. Then Stanley moved to league rivals Ural Ufa . At his third Olympic Games in London in 2012 , he finished fifth.
