Clifford Jones (musician)

Clifford "Snags" Jones (* 1900 in New Orleans , † January 31, 1947 in Chicago ) was an American jazz musician. He worked as a drummer for Chicago jazz .

Live and act

Jones grew up in New Orleans; a friend from school was the trumpeter Buddy Petit . At the beginning of his career he played with Petit, Jack Carey , Papa Celestin and Armand Piron . After moving to Chicago in 1922, he worked a. a. with Tig Chambers, Al Simeons Hot Six , King Oliver and the studio bands Dixie Four, Midnight Rounders and State Street Ramblers around Jimmy Blythe and Bill Johnson . In 1929 he took with Arnett Nelson's band King Mutt and His Tennessee Thumpers and with the Kansas City Stompers. Further recordings were made with Junie Cobb , Jimmy Wade , Preston Jackson and Punch Miller . In the 1930s he lived near Milwaukee , where he a. a. played with Art Simms . For the following decade, Jones worked as a freelance musician in the Great Lakes area . 1946/47 he still played with Bunk Johnson and Darnell Howard ; shortly afterwards he died. Jones was the tutor of Lionel Hampton .
