Climate Vulnerable Forum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) is a forum for countries that are particularly affected by climate change . Many of them are already feeling the effects of global warming from rising sea levels or increasing droughts . Currently (2019) 48 countries from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and the South Pacific are gathered here.

aims

The main goal is to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius since the beginning of industrialization. The forum is to be used as a common platform for action. The countries particularly affected by global climate change want to convert their energy production entirely to renewable energies . They are also committed to fighting energy poverty and protecting water and food supplies.

history

The forum was on 9./10. Founded in November 2009 at a meeting initiated by the Maldivian government of eleven countries particularly affected by climate change. It was there that preparations were made for the UN climate conference in Copenhagen , which took place a month later , and at which the 1.5 ° reduction target was represented for the first time. Since then, the goals of the forum have been disseminated in particular at the other UN climate conferences. The last time this happened was in November 2016 at the UN climate conference in Marrakech .
