Clive is a small town in the Hawke's Bay region on the North Island of New Zealand .
Origin of name
The place was named after the British general and politician Robert Clive, 1st Baron Clive , but was also known under the Māori name Waipūreku from 1850 .
geography
Clive is located 10 km south of Napier and 8 km northeast of Hastings directly on the Clive River and just under 2 km southwest of the confluence of the Ngaruroro River in the Pacific Ocean .
At the census in 2013, the town had 1,764 inhabitants, 11.6% more than at the 2006 census.
economy
The rural place is economically characterized by farming, fruit and horticulture and sheep breeding.
Sports
Clive is home to the Hawke's Bay Rowing Club , which trains on the Clive River . The Hawke's Bay rowing regatta, which has been held since 1985, takes place on the first weekend of the year and is New Zealand's oldest regatta.
Leisure activities
The " Farndorn Park " offers sports facilities, a swimming pool and a small zoo.
