The Clusius cinquefoil ( Potentilla clusiana ), also Ostalpen- or Tauern cinquefoil called, is a plant of the genus of Potentilla ( Potentilla ) in the subfamily of Rosoideae within the family of Rosaceae (Rosaceae). It is named after the botanist Charles de l'Écluse .

description

The Clusius cinquefoil is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches a stature height of 5 to 10 centimeters. The few leaves are fingered in five parts and, like the stem, are haired at an angle. The green leaves on both sides are wedge-shaped, truncated and have five teeth.

One to three flowers form per inflorescence , which towers above the leaves. The hermaphrodite, radial symmetry flowers have a diameter of about 2 centimeters. The sepals are lanceolate and slightly longer than the narrower outer calyx ; both are reddish. The yellowish white petals are oval, edged and protrude far beyond the calyx. The 20 stamens have bare, often red overflowing stamens. The flowering period extends from June to July.

The fruit is hairy at the top.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 42.

Occurrence

It is limited to altitudes between 1400 and 2200 meters and spread from the Eastern Alps to the Balkans . The preferred location of the limestone plant is limestone rocks and rubble. It is a character species of the Potentilletum clusianae from the association Cystopteridion, but also occurs in companies of the association Seslerion together with Carex firma .

This plant species is protected.
