Coșarii (until 1965 Chizdia , German: Kisdia , Hungarian: Kisgye , Kizdia , Serbo-Croatian: Кошарији ) is a village in Timiș County , Banat , Romania . Coșarii belongs to the municipality of Brestovăț .

Geographical location

Coșarii is located in the north of Timiș County, 53 kilometers northeast of Timișoara , on the border with Arad County , halfway between Topolovățu Mare in Timiș County and Lipova in Arad County.

history

The first documentary mention of the village comes from the Middle Ages (1440), when the settlement was called Felsökizdia and belonged to Șoimoș Castle in Arad County , Kingdom of Hungary . On the Josephine land survey of 1717 the place Kisdia is registered with 16 houses. The place name comes from the Hungarian Kis Gya , which means something like small village .

After the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Banat was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary . The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the triple division of the Banat, whereby Chizdia fell to the Kingdom of Romania . Since 1965 the official place name is Coșarii .
