The Coalminers' Beat was a German Irish folk - rock band. The most famous song by The Coalminers 'Beat is Land of Green from the album The Coalminers' Beat from 1993.

Band history

In 1987 Stefan Meissel, Gregor Schmidt, Vox Jaus, Kai Seifried and Andreas Mayer founded the punk band Dirty Minds . Two years later they changed their name to The Coalminers' Beat and played their first Irish folk songs.

The self-produced debut album welcome to the miners' party sold well. Today it is traded at collector's prices. The result was a video for Down by the Seine , which was filmed in Paris .

Sony Music Germany showed interest and had almost all songs on their debut album re-recorded or mixed. Then there was the piece of land of green . This was released as the first single . At this time, the manager Andreas Läsker signed the band.

With the third album Colourblind , supported by violins , the clear orientation towards rock and alternative came to light. What D 'You Want was released as a single and a video was produced for it.

After several years of touring, The Coalminers' Beat split from Sony Music and recorded their next album Next to Nothing on their own . On this album, guitarist Stefan Meissel was the lead singer for the first time, since Gregor Schmidt had left the band. Andreas Meyer was also replaced on bass by Alex Uhl.

The next album, Waterproof , came out in 1998, this time under the Semaphore Records label . Shortly after the CD was pressed, but before the finished CDs were delivered, Semaphore Records went bankrupt . As long as the CDs were part of the bankruptcy estate, they could neither be distributed nor sold at concerts.

On February 27, 1998 Oliver Frick (violin, guitar, vocals) left the band and was replaced by Michael Speth.

The Coalminers' Beat also toured Germany. With the again self-produced CDs Daily Dose of… and Live '97 / '98 under the label Stormy Monday Records , the last recordings came on the market at the same time in 2000.

On December 22nd, 2001 The Coalminers' Beat gave their last concert at Scala in Ludwigsburg and declared the end of the band after 14 years.

In the history of the band, The Coalminers' Beat played with Fantastischen Vier , Bryan Adams , Monster Magnet , Extrabreit , The Jinxs and New Model Army on one stage. They performed over 600 times in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
