Romagn.

Russula sect. Coccineae is a section from the genus Russula , which was defined by Romagnesi. In the revision of his system (1987) he promoted them to the subgenus Coccinula . The section or subgenus contains as subordinate taxa, the Decolorantinae , Paludosinae and the Laetinae . The type species is Russula velenovskyi , the brick-red blubber .

features

According to Romagnesi, the representatives of the subsection usually have bright red, red-orange, orange or yellow colored hats. The hat is never colored green or brown and rarely purple and when it is, it is usually only in the middle. In most cases the representatives are very large, but always larger than the representatives of the Tenellae . The meat does not turn yellow, nor does it blacken. In rare cases it tends to be gray or red. It has an inconspicuous odor and tastes mild. The spore powder is ocher or yellow. There are no characteristic macrochemical reactions. The reactions with iron sulfate , aniline or phenol are inconsistent or do not deviate from the standard reaction .

Lactifera and dermatocystidia are always present in the stalk, but can sometimes be absent in the cap skin. Instead, primordial hyphae can be observed there.
