Cohasset is located in northern Minnesota on the Upper Mississippi . The city is located at 47 ° 15'07 "north latitude and 93 ° 37'25" west longitude. It extends over 91.40 km², which is spread over 69.44 km² of land and 21.96 km² of water.

Neighboring towns of Cohasset are Deer River (15.3 km northwest), Coleraine (18.4 km east) and Grand Rapids (on the southeastern city limits).

The nearest major cities are Fargo in North Dakota (273 km west), Winnipeg in the Canadian province of Manitoba (466 km northwest), Duluth on Lake Superior (142 km southeast) and Minneapolis (294 km south).
