The Colégio de São José is a secondary school for 15 to 18 year olds in Dili , the capital of East Timor . It is located in the Balide district ( Suco Santa Cruz , Vera Cruz Administration Office ). The school is named after Saint Joseph .
history
The Colégio was separated from the diocese of Dili in 1983 from the Nossa Senhora da Fatima seminary . In 1993 the school was handed over to the Jesuits . In 1999 the school had 350 students and 42 teachers. During the unrest during the independence referendum in August 1999 , the school became a refugee camp where 5,000 people sought refuge. After the crisis there were only 252 students and four teachers left. In 2003 the school again had 280 students, ten full-time and 16 part-time teachers.
