Manuel Florêncio da Canossa Vong (born November 7, 1962 in Dili , Portuguese Timor ) short name Lito Vong , is a university lecturer and politician from East Timor .

Career

Vong comes from a family of farmers. He has five brothers and five sisters. The parents attached great importance to a good school education. From 1969 to 1974 Manuel Vong attended the elementary school of the Catholic Mission, then he went to school in Dili from 1974 to 1975. On December 7th, the Indonesians landed in Dili. Vong returned to his school in Dili in 1976. and graduated from eighth grade in 1977. The pre-secondary level followed by 1981 and in 1984 Vong completed the secondary level at the Colégio de São José . In 1989 he received a bachelor's degree in public administration from the Akademi Pemerintahan Dalam Negeri (APDN) in Banjarbaru ( Kalimantan Selatan ), Indonesia . This was followed by a degree in political science at the Ilmu Pemerintahan Institute in Jakarta in 1992 and a master's degree in political science at the Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta from 2000 to 2002 .

In 1991/1992 Vong was head of the scholarship program for East Timorese students. He then entered East Timor from March 1993 to April 1994 Administrator of the sub-district Barique / Natarbora and 1994-1998 sub-district administrator of Manatuto .

Since 2002 Vong has been a lecturer at the School for Tourism and Hospitality of the Dili Institute of Technology (DIT) and manager of the DIT, from 2007 Vice Rector , from 2009 internal auditor and since January 2015 Rector of the DIT. In 2008 he received a diploma from Victoria University, Australia . From 2010 to 2014, Vong completed a degree in tourism at the University of the Algarve in Faro and graduated with a doctorate.

On October 13, 2017, Vong was appointed Minister of Tourism in the VII Government of East Timor by President Francisco Guterres and sworn in on October 17. His term of office as minister ended on June 22, 2018 when the Eighth Government of East Timor took office.

On April 30, 2020, Vong was re- proposed as Minister of Tourism, Trade and Industry (MTCI) by the East Timorese government , but was then appointed to the commission headed by Rui Augusto Gomes on June 19 , following the measures for East Timor’s economic recovery the COVID-19 pandemic is expected to develop.
