List of Economics Ministers of East Timor
This is a list of the East Timor’s Economics Ministers since independence was proclaimed in 1975 . The ministers of trade and industry also belong to the economics ministers. The deputy ministers and state secretaries assigned to the economic ministries are also given.
Cutting of the department
Responsibility for economic matters was distributed very differently in the various East Timorese cabinets . In the government of 1975 there was, on the one hand, a minister for economic coordination and statistics, and on the other hand, a minister for economic and social affairs. The Minister of Economics of the First Transitional Government became Minister of Economics and Development in the Second Interim Government, and finally, in the First Government , in personal union with the Prime Minister, the Minister of Development and the Environment . During the government reshuffle in 2005, the Prime Minister gave the portfolio to the new Minister for Development, who remained in office in the two following governments.
In the fourth government , the department was divided into two ministries. The Minister of Economy and Development was responsible for developing microfinance and cooperatives. The second ministry was subordinate to the Minister of Tourism , Trade and Industry. In the V. and VI. Government , the ministries were reunited, with the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Environment in the VI. Government was subordinated to the Minister of State and Coordinator of Economic Affairs.
The Seventh Government again separated the Minister for Development and Institutional Reforms (in personal union with the Prime Minister) and the Minister for Trade and Industry. In the eighth government , the ministerial offices for the economic departments remained vacant until 2020 due to the dispute with the state president . The posts of Minister for Tourism, Trade and Industry and Minister for Economic Affairs were provisional during this period.
