II. Transitional Government of East Timor
The II. Transitional Government of East Timor (II UNTAET Transitional Government) was the second government of East Timor set up by the United Nations , which took over governance from 2001 until the independence of East Timor in 2002.

After the end of the Indonesian occupation in 1999, East Timor was under the interim administration of the United Nations (UNTAET).
In the elections for the constituent assembly on August 30, 2001 , FRETILIN won an absolute majority. Therefore, FRETILIN General Secretary Mari Alkatiri received the post of Chief Minister in the interim government under the UN special envoy for East Timor Sérgio Vieira de Mello . Finance Minister Fernanda Borges resigned from office in 2002. She was followed on April 30th by Madalena Boavida (FRETILIN).
