I. East Timor's constitutional government
The I. constitutional government of East Timor (I Constitutional Government) was the first government of East Timor after the dismissal into independence on May 20, 2002. Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri remained until June 26, 2006 at the office.

As the strongest force in parliament that emerged from the Constituent Assembly, FRETILIN provided Marí Alkatiri, the first prime minister after the Indonesian occupation and the United Nations interim administration (UNTAET).
On May 20, 2002, the cabinet members were sworn into independence with the official release of East Timor.
Deputy Foreign Minister José Luís Guterres resigned in 2002 and became East Timor's Ambassador to the United States on May 8, 2003 . He was replaced by Olímpio Miranda Branco .
On March 4, 2003, the following cabinet members were initially dismissed from their offices to redesign the ministries: Ana Pessoa Pinto , Rogério Lobato , Domingos Maria Sarmento , Alcino Baris and Ilda Maria da Conceição . They were sworn in in their new offices along with new cabinet members on March 6th. Jorge da Conceição Teme became East Timor's first ambassador to Australia in May 2003 .
On July 26, 2005, the government was reformed again. In 2006 there was serious unrest in East Timor . As a result of the events, Interior Minister Rogério Lobato and Defense Minister Roque Rodrigues had to resign. Foreign Minister José Ramos-Horta also took over the Ministry of Defense , while Alcino Baris became the new Interior Minister. On June 25, Ramos-Horta, Ovídio Amaral and Luís Maria Lobato resigned in protest against Prime Minister Alkatiri, who finally assumed political responsibility for the unrest on June 26 and made his position available.
