Manuel Abrantes

Manuel Abrantes is an East Timorese politician and diplomat.

Abrantes was chairman of the Catholic Peace and Justice Commission during the United Nations interim administration for East Timor .

Under Prime Minister Marí Alkatiri , Abrantes was East Timor's Deputy Minister of Justice from May 20, 2002 to June 26, 2006 . He was followed by Isabel da Costa Ferreira .

In 2006 Abrantes succeeded Pascoela Barreto as East Timor's ambassador to Portugal. He held the office until January 2009, three months before his actual end of the term. There should have been tensions with Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão . His successor was Natália Carrascalão Antunes .
