Egídio de Jesus

Egídio de Jesus is an East Timorese politician and diplomat. He is the interim party chairman of Frenti-Mudança FM (as of 2020).

Career

In the interim government under the administration of the United Nations (UNTAET), Jesus was State Secretary for Natural Resources and Minerals from September 30, 2001 to May 19, 2002 . On October 4, 2001, he succeeded Peter Galbraith as the new director for the Timor Sea Joint Authority , in which East Timor and Australia jointly coordinated oil exploration and production in the Timor Sea . When he assumed the first constitutional government on May 20, Jesus was given the secretariat of state for electricity and water. On July 26, 2005, there was a reshuffle of the cabinet and Jesus became State Secretary for Region III ( Dili , Aileu , Ermera ). On May 8, 2006, as part of the unrest in East Timor, the office of Jesus in Gleno was surrounded by several hundred young people. There were clashes with the police , in which one policeman was killed and another was seriously injured. At the following FRETILIN congress , Jesus aroused the displeasure of the party leadership when he clearly positioned himself for their replacement and joined the internal party opposition FRETILIN Mudança under José Luís Guterres . When he assumed the second constitutional government on July 14, 2006, Jesus left the government. In 2011 the reform movement separated from FRETILIN and founded FM. Jesus became vice chairman of the party.

On July 10, 2008, Jesus received his accreditation as the new East Timorese ambassador to Cuba . He held the office until 2012, when he was replaced by Olímpio Branco .

In the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2017 , Jesus ran for fifth place on the FM list, but the party failed because of the four percent hurdle. In the early elections in 2018 , he was in 14th place on the joint list of the Frenti Dezenvolvimentu Demokratieiku (FDD), to which the FM belonged. The FDD was only able to win three seats in parliament.

The party Jesus led the new governing coalition of 2020 as interim president of the FM.
