Coldspring is the district capital and county seat of San Jacinto County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located 110 km north of Houston in central county, in southeast Texas, is about 140 km to the south from the Gulf of Mexico , to the east about 130 km from Louisiana and has a total area of 4.8 km 2 without any significant water surface.
history
The first name of the settlement was Coonskin. It was under this name that it was given the first post office in 1847. Within a year it was renamed Fireman's Hill and Cold Spring in 1850 and Cold Spring in 1890. In 1870 the place became the seat of the county administration.

According to the 2000 census, 691 people lived here in 263 households and 180 families. The population density was 145.0 inhabitants per km 2 . The racial the population was composed of 66.28% White, 31.40% African American, 0.43% Native American, 0.58% Asian, 0.00% Pacific islanders, and 0.00% others ethnic groups. About 1.30% were mixed race and 3.18% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 263 households, 34.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 44.1% of them were married couples living together. 20.5% were single mothers and 31.2% were non-families. 28.1% of all households were single households and there were people living in 12.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 2.91 people.
27.8% of the population were under 18 years old, 10.6% 18 to 24, 26.8% 25 to 44, 20.1% 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 95.8 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 86.9 men.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 27,083 , and the median income for a family is $ 30,729. Males had a median income of $ 31,667 versus $ 23,750 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,777. 19.6% of the population and 19.7% of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 18.9% were children and adolescents under the age of 18 and 13.6% were 65 or older.
