Colli Altotiberini
The wines with the designation Colli Altotiberini DOC are produced in the area of the Upper Tiber in the province of Perugia , Umbria . They have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1980 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.
Cultivation
In the hills on both sides of the Tiber, white , rosé and red wines with DOC status are produced in the municipalities of San Giustino , Citerna , Città di Castello , Monte Santa Maria Tiberina , Montone , Umbertide , Gubbio and Perugia . There is evidence that viniculture has been practiced in this area since the Etruscan era .

The following types of wine may be produced within the denomination:
- Blending wines
- Colli Altotiberini Bianco (also called "Superiore"): must contain at least 50% Trebbiano Toscano . A maximum of 50% other white grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Umbria region may be added.
- Colli Altotiberini Spumante : must contain at least 50% Grechetto , Chardonnay , Pinot bianco , Pinot nero and / or Pinot grigio (individually or together). A maximum of 50% other white grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Umbria region may be added.
- Colli Altotiberini Rosso and Colli Altotiberini Rosato (also as Riserva or Novello ): must contain at least 50% Sangiovese . A maximum of 50% other white grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Umbria region may be added.
- Almost single origin wines
The grape variety mentioned must contain at least 85%. A maximum of 15% other analogous grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Umbria region may be added.

- Color: more or less intense ruby red
- Smell: pleasantly vinous, with characteristic aromas
- Taste: dry, round, full-bodied
- Alcohol content: at least 11.5 % by volume
- Acidity : at least 4.5 g / l
- Dry extract : at least 19.0 g / l
