Collinas Erben is the title of a football podcast that illuminates current football events from the perspective of referees . It has been run since October 2012 by Klaas Reese , sports journalist, and Alex Feuerherdt , editor, publicist and referee instructor in the Cologne soccer district. Around 100 episodes had been produced by the summer of 2019 and appeared at irregular intervals. The title of the podcast pays tribute to former FIFA referee Pierluigi Collina .

Background and content

The original aim of the “first and only referee podcast” in Germany was to explain the 17 football rules and to contribute to a better understanding of referees and their decisions. Reese and Feuerherdt also answered questions from the listeners at an early stage, addressed specific referee services and decisions in the Bundesliga , DFB Cup and international football as well as the further development of the football rules and their interpretation. In particular, the hand game as well as the application of video evidence are often discussed. There are also interviews with well-known referees (including Bibiana Steinhaus , Sascha Stegemann , Lutz Michael Fröhlich , Knut Kircher and Patrick Ittrich ) as well as the appreciation of deceased referees.

The explanation of all football rules could therefore only be completed in June 2016 with episode 81.

The podcast offer is supplemented by a Twitter channel operated by the authors with around 27,000 followers (as of February 2019 ), in which current referee performances are discussed and commented on. Also under the title Collinas Erben , Feuerherdt comments on the referee services of the previous Bundesliga match day on Mondays on the n-tv website . Collina's heirs have also been guests at the lawn radio podcast several times and have rated the referees' performance in the lawn radio royal season review.

Effect and appreciation

Collina's heirs meet with a great response. It is considered to be one of the best football podcasts in Germany and is also recommended by less football-savvy media. The “factual and good classification of the event”, the “excellent analyzes”, but also the entertainment value are appreciated. On the other hand, “the very irregular appearance” is criticized.

The comments on current referee services and decisions disseminated by Collina's heirs are also regularly picked up by the established media. a. from Spiegel Online , from sport1 , from Deutschlandfunk , von der Welt , from 11 Freunde and the Sportschau . Alex Feuerherdt has earned a high reputation for himself through Collina's heirs and can also be seen as a referee expert in television interviews. To be mentioned are z.
