The congregation used to be called Fatima Crusaders or Oblates of Mary Immaculate Queen . The sedisvakantistCommunity does not belong to the Roman Catholic Church because it assumes that there is currently no legitimate Pope , but that the See of Peter is orphaned.

history

Francis Schuckardt

The congregation was founded in Coeur d'Alene , Idaho , in 1967 by Francis Schuckardt, with the help of Denis Chicoine and the permission of the Bishop of Boise , Sylvester Treinen . Schuckardt had in mind the establishment of a congregation for men and women.

With the implementation of the reforms of the Second Vatican Council , Schuckhardt and the Congregation came to the conclusion that Pope Paul VI. are not considered the rightful holder of the Holy See, which is why they received the sacraments only from priests who shared this view. In the early 1970s, Schuckhardt was ordained bishop by Daniel F. Brown , a bishop of the Old Catholic Church . Brown later also joined the Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen.

In the late 1970s, the CMRI acquired the former Jesuit scholasticism on Mount Saint Michael in Spokane , Washington , which became the center of the fellowship.

In 1984, Schuckardt was publicly accused by Chicoine of substance abuse , immorality and personal, financial and organizational mismanagement. In June 1984 Chicoine Schuckardt excluded from the community.

Post-Schuckardt era

In the fall of 1984 the priests were looking for a bishop to ordain priests for the congregation and found him in Bishop George Musey of Galveston, Texas, whose episcopal line of ordination can be traced back to Archbishop Pierre Martin Ngô Đình Thục . On April 23, 1985, three of the four remaining priests "publicly and formally" declared a "renunciation of their mistakes and made a creed ad cautelam" before Bishop Musey. Bishop Musey thereafter re-ordained sub conditionem , although he publicly stated that he personally had no doubts about the validity of their previous ordinations.

In 1986, the CMRI held its first general chapter, establishing formal rules and constitutions. In the same year the rule was approved by Bishop Robert F. McKenna , OP, whose episcopal line also goes back to Archbishop Thuc.

In 1989, Father Mark Pivarunas was elected Superior General of the Congregation. In 1991 he was ordained bishop by Bishop Moisés Carmona , from the line of ordination of Archbishop Thuc.

He is currently serving as Superior General . Before his death, Bishop Schuckardt and his followers tried to oust Pivaruna in a dispute, since Schuckardt had never officially resigned his office as Superior General of the Congregation. Schuckardt excommunicated Pivarunas and claimed that Pivarunas had disqualified himself under the old canon law.

Current situation

The congregation serves 29 churches and chapels in the United States , Canada , Australia, and New Zealand . She has a seminary , Mater Dei Seminary, in Omaha , Nebraska , while the sisters have their motherhouse in Spokane, Washington (Mount Saint Michaels Mission). The CMRI is widespread in Central and South America as well as Europe, with centers in the British Isles, Central Europe and Russia.

Connections to Germany

In Germany the Working Group on Catholic Faith works closely with the CMRI. The German priests of the working group look after the congregation of Oswald Baker in Ely , formerly Downham Market , and the measuring centers in Basel and in the Czech Republic . These locations are officially listed as CMRI measuring centers. In addition, young German priests study in the seminary in Pivarunas. Bishop Pivarunas also ordained the last new German priest.
