The Conneaut Creek is a 95 km long tributary of Lake Erie at the south bank in the northwestern US state of Pennsylvania and northeastern Ohio . The river drains 249 km² of predominantly agricultural land that lies in the catchment area of Lake Erie. Conneaut Creek is part of the St. Lawrence River system across Lake Erie and the Niagara River .
The Conneaut Creek rises 5 km northeast of the village of Linesville in western Crawford County in Pennsylvania and flows first in a northerly direction into western Erie County . At Albion, the river bends west-southwest, now flows about 25 km parallel to the shoreline of Lake Erie, before it swings northeast at Kingsville and flows into Lake Erie within the town of Conneaut in Ashtabula County . The Conneaut Creek catchment area includes the West Branch, Middle Branch, East Branch and Stone Run tributaries.
According to the Geographic Names Information System , the river was also referred to as Caneaught Creek, Coneaught Creek, Conneaugh River, Conneought Creek, Conyeayout Creek, and Counite Riviere .
