action

Lee Ray Oliver kills several drug traffickers as well as innocent people. He is sentenced to death for this. Oliver is said to be given a lethal injection, but he wakes up a few hours later.

Dr. Michael Copeland offers Oliver the opportunity to take part in a scientific experiment that studies the effects of a substance called anagress , which controls behavior. Oliver agrees. He is treated, but tries to escape twice. On the second try, he overpowers Dr. Copeland and threatens to stab his eye. Copeland breaks free and beats Oliver up. The dose of the drug is greatly increased.

Oliver becomes less violent. One day he cries for one of his victims, Gary Caputo, who was in a coma for 7 months because of him and is now mentally impaired. He was released to continue researching the drug, moved into a small apartment under a different name and found work in a car wash. However, he is constantly monitored. Oliver falls in love with Teresa, his work colleague.

To apologize to Gary Caputo, he tricks his guards and takes the train to his former victim. He gives him sweets and explains that he is his friend. He does not mention that he is the one who hurt him at the time. When Gary's brother Bill surprisingly comes home, Oliver has to flee, but Bill notices that someone was with Gary.

In the following, Oliver is pursued by a henchman of a gang boss, whom he can overpower, and tells him that he has become a different person and wants his peace. Thereupon he is led by Dr. Copeland and his men picked up. A return ticket found with him confirms Dr. Copelands that Oliver did not want to escape, but acted out of remorse. Nevertheless, threats are made that the experiment will be terminated if the next irregularity occurs.

Meanwhile, Bill Caputo goes in search of Oliver, since he suspects that it is the same man who almost killed his brother. After Oliver comes home from a date with Teresa, Bill attacks him with a gun and takes him to his pickup truck . Since Bill's only witness was shot dead, Oliver is believed to have escaped. Bill takes him to his home and forces him at gunpoint to confess to his brother Gary what he did to him. However, Gary continues to believe that Lee Ray is his friend, knocks his brother over and helps Oliver escape. In a hospital he tries to find a sedative, otherwise he threatens to become aggressive again. There he is caught again by a contract killer, who he can kill.

He is now looking for Dr. Copeland - who thinks he is innocent - goes to his house and demands his pills. Since he doesn't have enough supplies at home, he calls Eden Ross, with whom he has a relationship, and asks her to bring the entire supply of Anagress from the laboratory to him. However, Ross betrays him and informs Dr. Copeland's boss, Arlo, driving a team to his house. There he reveals to Copeland that all of the test subjects of Anagress died of liver failure and that Oliver only received a placebo , so that he lived his way of life himself. Dr. Copeland escapes with Oliver in his car, but they are followed by Arlo's men and pushed into a lake. When they swim to the bank, Oliver is shot. The police, which arrived shortly afterwards, arrested Copeland and Oliver's persecutors, including Copeland's superior Arlo.

In the last scenes you can see Dr. Copeland, who is now back with his ex-wife Barbara. The two have named after her long before slain son Thomas Copeland - Youth Center ( youth center set up), which Barbara had planned for some time.
