The Copernicus-Gymnasium Löningen (CGL) is a secondary school for students from grades 5 to 13. The gymnasium is located in the Ringstrasse school center in Löningen and has a musical branch. It is named after the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus .

Subject offer

At the Copernicus-Gymnasium, English is taught as the first foreign language from year 5. Latin and French are offered as second foreign languages. In addition to art and music, performing games is also taught as an artistic subject.

Upper school

The upper level is awarded in the course system . You can choose between the linguistic, scientific, social and musical-artistic focus.

Working groups

At the Copernicus-Gymnasium, additional working groups from all fields of activity are offered, including a theater group, a robot group or a DELF group.

Third World

The school runs many fundraising campaigns in favor of the “Little Nazareno” project. The basis for this is provided by the one-world shop , which is operated by a working group.

All day offer

The Copernicus-Gymnasium is an open all-day school . There is a cooperation with the VFL Löningen. There is a cafeteria in the school center.

Music at the CGL

In grades 5–8, the music class model is carried out in cooperation with the Cloppenburg district music school. This includes wind classes and string classes , which replace regular music lessons. There is also a big band , a wind orchestra , a string orchestra and a school choir at the Copernicus Gymnasium . Projects such as symphony orchestras , additional choirs and chamber music ensembles take place regularly . In the upper level of the gymnasium, music can be taken as the first examination subject for the Abitur in the musical and artistic focus . With over 300 pupils actively playing music, the musical branch of the Copernicus Gymnasium is one of the largest in Lower Saxony. The school orchestra of the Copernicus-Gymnasium became Lower Saxony's state champion of youth orchestras in 2017.

Molecular biological school laboratory

In 2014, the Copernicus Gymnasium was the first school in West Lower Saxony to set up a molecular biology school laboratory. In addition to everyday lessons, teacher training courses also take place here. The Copernicus Gymnasium also works here with the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg .

Building complex

The Copernicus-Gymnasium is located in the Ringstrasse school center . The grammar school consists of a main building with a natural science wing, a class wing, a musical wing as well as an administration wing and an auxiliary building, called Pilz due to the design . The Foucault pendulum is located in the central auditorium . The school premises also include two sports halls, a swimming pool, several outdoor sports fields, a cafeteria, a bistro and the Forum Hasetal. The premises of the St. Ludgeri Realschule and the Gutenberg Secondary School are in the immediate vicinity.

exchange

The Copernicus-Gymnasium maintains student exchanges with Trzebnica (Poland) and Fécamp (France). In addition, there has been a school partnership for over 40 years (since 1973) and thus a regular student exchange with the Norfolk Academy in Norfolk . This makes it the longest existing school partnership between Germany and the USA. The CGL also participates in the Comenius and Erasmus Plus projects. The Copernicus-Gymnasium was recognized as a European school . In addition, there has been a scientific exchange with Huizen (Netherlands) since 2015
