Cortes is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Leiria . It has 3,066 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

history

The first mention of the place comes from the year 1250, from an inventory of the Knights Templar in Tomar . Cortes has been a separate municipality since 1592.

Culture and sights

A number of mansions and sacred buildings are listed in the municipality, including the baroque parish church Igreja Paroquial de Cortes (also Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Gaiola ), built from 1550 .
