Aquaristics
The panda armored catfish is well suited for keeping in the aquarium , also in the community tank , where it should definitely be kept in groups. The panda catfish is also grateful for hiding places and a soft, sandy substrate that it can dig through with its barbels and search for food. Like all Corydoras, the panda armored catfish is an intestinal breather , which means that it occasionally appears on the surface of the water to gasp for air. If it is kept in aquariums, value should therefore be placed on free access to the water surface. He should have at least 5 conspecifics for his well-being and for species-appropriate keeping in the tank, since in nature they live in large groups of several hundred animals, which is difficult to implement in the aquarium. Suitable water values are a temperature of 22 ° C to 26 ° C and a pH value of 6.0 to 7.8. The water hardness should have a KH value of 2 ° to 10 ° and a GH value of 2 ° d to 20 ° d. The aquarium should have a volume of at least 56 liters.
nutrition
The panda catfish is omnivorous and feeds on algae, detritus , small animals and parts of plants. The following food is suitable in the aquarium: live food ( Artemia , mosquito larvae ), frozen food ( Cyclops ) and dry food (tablets, food flakes).
breed
The panda armored catfish is an easy species to breed. The females lay about 30 eggs one after the other, which are glued to large leaves, stones or simply to the panes of the aquarium. The somewhat larger females are characterized by their fullness and the round ventral fins in contrast to the pointed ventral fins of the males.
