- Kelsey Bern - The red-haired, 8-year-old girl is one of Craig's friends. She always wears a purple cloak and has a pet parakeet (which she calls a hawk) called Mortimer , which usually sits on her head. She typically wears a homemade PVC pipe sword. She is adventurous, loves books, and has a tendency to be overly dramatic. She lives with her single, widowed father. In Doorway to Helen , it is revealed that Kelsey is Jewish.
