Cristin Milioti (* 16th August 1985 in Cherry Hill , New Jersey ) is an American actress . Milioti was best known for leading roles in theater and musical productions on Broadway and received a Tony Award nomination in 2012 for her work in the musical Once . In Germany she became famous for her role as mother in How I Met Your Mother .

Milioti was born in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. She received her high school Accounts 2003 at the Cherry Hill High School East , after which they long acting classes at the one year New York University took. She was also featured in some American advertising campaigns, including for the Ford Edge . She has also appeared in television series such as 30 Rock and films such as Greetings from the Shore . In the final episode of the eighth season of How I Met Your Mother , she can be seen as Tracy McConnell (" the mother "). She was promoted to lead actress for the ninth and final season of the series.

In December 2013 she starred as Jordan Belfort's first wife Teresa Petrillo in the movie The Wolf of Wall Street alongside Leonardo DiCaprio .
