Cryptex is a German progressive - folk - rock band from Niedersachsen ( Salzgitter and Hannover ). The three-piece band was founded in 2008 and has so far released an EP , a live DVD and a studio album .

The trio plays a mix of progressive rock, folk, pop and hard rock. When performing live, the band uses exotic and atypical instruments such as the sansula , didgeridoo , cajón or glockenspiel .

history

In 2003, the two musicians Simon Moskon and Ramón Fleig got to know each other during occasional jam sessions in the Salzgitters music scene, from which the first joint band projects developed that laid the foundation for the later collaboration in the band Cryptex.

In the spring of 2008, Simon Moskon abandoned the search for a guitarist through various advertising markets to complete the line-up. After auditions with potential applicants, the decision was made in favor of the then 19-year-old Hanoverian Martin Linke.

Work on the first EP Even Nature Will Be Thrilled , which was published in late summer 2008 and produced in- house , began immediately and, after completion, was released via a small digital distributor on download and streaming sites.

From January 2009 the band focused on working out their live performance and began touring first through Lower Saxony and finally through the whole of Germany .

By participating in music competitions such as Local Heroes , Schooljam or Emergenza , and the resulting placements, the band was able to record first successes, positive mention in the specialist press and a certain degree of awareness in the German newcomer scene.

From March to December 2010 the band produced their debut album Good Morning, How Did You Live? , on which she worked with various instruments , wind instruments , gospel , string ensembles and guest musicians like Klaus Heuermann . For Simon Moskon, who is considered the creative head and band leader of Cryptex, it was very important to produce a multi-faceted and genre-diverse album as possible in order to create a fresh, new sound with a clear unique selling point by adding his own essence.

On December 12, 2010, the band was signed with the label service provider SAOL, the promotion and management agency CMM and the music publisher Warner / Chappell Music . On March 25, 2011, Cryptex released Good Morning, How Did You Live? via the associated sales structures throughout Europe (physical) and worldwide (digital).

Cryptex at the Paris Club Divan du Monde, Paris (2012)

From February 10th to March 26th, 2012, Cryptex played their first 14-country European tour as support act for the Swedish progressive metal band Pain of Salvation .

In autumn of the same year, the first live DVD was released, which was recorded during the tour in Weert, the Netherlands and contains extensive bonus material such as a large photo gallery and a 45-minute band documentation in addition to the concert. This publication also received good reviews in the music press.

Less than six months later, another eight-country European tour followed as support for the British band Threshold , which was supplemented in April and May 2013 by Cryptex's first headlining club tour (eleven concerts in Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland).

After a few festival shows in the summer, Cryptex was invited to open on July 26th 2013 for the horror rock legend Alice Cooper in the Kajot Arena in Brno, Czech Republic .

This concert represented an important milestone due to the first arena situation and the resulting media attention in Germany.

For the first time, major radio stations such as Radio21 reported in more detail about the band.

In September 2013 they separated from guitarist Martin Linke, while preparations for the recordings on a new album were being planned.

From March 3rd to 14th, 2014 , the first production phase for the second album took place in the Horus Sound Studio Hannover.
