Cucamonga Valley AVA (recognized since March 31, 1995) is a wine-growing region in the US state of California . The area is located in the administrative areas of San Bernardino County and Riverside Counties , approximately 70 km east of the city of Los Angeles . Viticulture has been a tradition in the Cucamonga Valley since 1838. Shortly before Prohibition in 1920, the Cucamonga Valley produced more grape material than the two now known areas of Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley combined. Prohibition as well as the urban expansion of Los Angeles on the one hand and Orange County on the other hand strongly affected viticulture. The Cucamonga Valley has a very warm climate and the daytime temperatures in summer are often over 38 ° C, so that mostly grape varieties from southern Europe are used here. The soil consists of sandy alluvial land.
