Cumaribo is a Colombian municipality ( municipality ) in the Vichada department . It is on the border with Venezuela . With an area of 65,674 km², Cumaribo is the largest municipality in Colombia, with an area larger than that of Israel and Switzerland combined.
In March 2011, 23 local employees of a Talisman Energy subsidiary were kidnapped near Cumaribo .
The security situation in the area is poor (currently March 2011). According to government reports, there is activity by the FARC and various criminal gangs.

Cumaribo is at an altitude of about 125 meters. The municipality borders in the north on Santa Rosalía , La Primavera and Puerto Carreño , in the south on Inírida , Barranco Minas and Mapiripana in the Departamento de Guainía and on San José del Guaviare in the Departamento del Guaviare , in the west on Mapiripán and Puerto Gaitán in the Department del Meta and to the east to the state of Amazonas in Venezuela .

The municipality of Cumaribo has 40,490 inhabitants, of whom 7940 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality.
Infrastructure
Cumaribo has a small airfield that is approached from Villavicencio and Puerto Carreño . There is a bad road connection, which is not passable in the rainy season, to Puerto Gaitán . The Río Vichada is navigable up to the Orinoco , on which regular liners operate.
