Cupcakes Taste Like Violence is the second extended play by American songwriter Jeffree Star , released on December 8, 2008. It was the first recording to be released on Popsicle Records by Warner Musics Independent Label Group . The first single Lollipop Luxury was released on November 18, 2008.

background

After announcing in 2007 that his first studio album , Beauty Killer was well on its way, Star began his first tour . On the tour, he played songs that were written for the album, including "Cupcakes Taste Like Violence" and a cover version of Rockwell's " Somebody's Watching Me ". Star stated in an interview that the new song featured Trace Cyrus and Mason Musso from Metro Station . However, due to a feud between the band and the star, they were replaced by Andrew de Torres of Danger Radio .

During the tour, Star announced names of several songs that Beauty Killer would include, including "Picture Perfect!" And "So Fierce". However, these songs didn't make it onto the final version of the album, but a remix version of "Lollipop Luxury" featuring Nicki Minaj is included. The following summer, star " So Fierce " made her debut on the Vans Warped Tour .

The EP was announced as Cupcakes Taste Like Violence . Commenting on the title, Star said, “I named my EP Cupcakes Taste Like Violence because it reminds me of myself. I may look cute, but I'm very creepy and violent inside. "

Artwork

The album cover and booklet photos were shot by photographer and filmmaker Austin Young .

Working title

  • The song "Cupcakes Taste like Violence" had the working title "Cupcakes & Violence (Which One Are You Choosing?)".
  • The song “Picture Perfect!” Had the working title “Mascara + Mistakes = Murder”.

Publication and promotion

When Beauty Killer was announced for release in late 2008, its cover song of "Somebody's Watching Me" was chosen as the album's first single. A pink vinyl disc was announced for a release in October exclusively on Hot Topic . However, the album was postponed to summer 2009. Star then began promoting the release of an EP on his MySpace profile with "Starstruck," a renamed recording of "Somebody's Watching Me," as the first single on the album.

To promote the EP, Star announced that "Starstruck" would be released as a free download on October 3, 2008 on MySpace. The song was made available on September 28, 2008 on his PureVolume profile. Additionally, a music video for "So Fierce" by Steve Peeps was released on November 17, 2008 to promote the following releases.

The song "Cupcakes Taste Like Violence" was featured on the popular MTV show "Paris Hilton: My New BFF".

controversy

After the album was released, a video went around showing similarities between pieces from Cupcakes Taste Like Violence and Moving in Stereo by The Cars , to which Jeffree replied, "So what?"
