The Curly Coated Retriever is one of the FCI recognized British hound e breed ( FCI Group 8, Section 1, standard no. 110 ).
Origin and history
When Curly Coated Retriever ( Engl. Frizzy curly Retriever ), often abbreviated as Curly called, is a rare hunting breed, which today primarily as a family dog is kept. It is the oldest breed in the retriever family . There are around 4,000 Curly Coated Retrievers worldwide, most of them in Northern Europe , although the breed is now also enjoying a certain popularity in the rest of Europe.
The breed originated in the 19th century by crossing a Newfoundland dog with an Irish Water Spaniel and later various poodles . In his country of origin, England , it was shown for the first time at an exhibition in Birmingham in 1860 ; it probably already existed in 1803 .

Males grow up to 69 cm, bitches up to 63 cm. Their appearance is characterized by a strong and wiry build with a lively gait. The coat is black or brown with tight, tight curls. The skull is round with a square muzzle; the large, wide ears are black or dark brown and covered with short curls. The tail is short and straight with a pointed end and curly hair .

Curly Coated Retrievers are intelligent hunting dogs with a lot of temperament and, like all retriever breeds, love the water . You need a lot of space and exercise; their instinct to watch and protect is pronounced and they are reserved towards strangers, but they are basically friendly, loyal and affectionate animals.
